Calculator Updates

One thing to remember is that 0 in any of the inches and 16th fields is denoted by picking the "inches" and "16th's" from the drop down menus. Be sure an press the "calculate" button when you enter all of your information!

  • Today there is another milestone for the calculator now V4.0, it now give all the correct angles for the fascia and hip if you are cutting sqaure cut tails. (11/24/2008)
  • The calculator has finally been put under the site style and hence the version number change. It did take me some time to get it done, but I'm glad I did. (11/23/2008)
  • The newest release of V3.0 brings improvements on how the calculator actually calculates the overhangs and the total lengths for the common, hip and valley rafters. It now makes provisions for sub fascia and fascia thickness as well as any building finishes that will be applied. These measurements are now factored into the overhang and final rafter lengths.

You can now explicitly set the calculations for either a hip or gable roof. All displayed measurements are now in feet & inches (06/29/2008).

Last but not least the ability to choose between single and double cheek cut hips has been implement. What's up next is the ability to calculate octagons roofs as well.

  • Release V2.50 Changed the input in the Feet field to have an initial value of "Feet". You need to hi-light the field and enter your actual number of feet even if it's "0". (06/19/08)
  • Added a click- able link from the number of jack-rafters to the The Ubiquitous Jack Rafter page. (09/22/2007)
  • Release V2.45 The hip rafter lengths are now all actual lengths. Ridge height is adjust to the first level. All input fields a live except overhang (feet) and HAP TYPE you have to press calculate after entering a value in those fields.
  • Release V2.4 added the first jack-rafter locator on the hip and the hip offset for each jack-rafter.
  • This release is V2.35
  • Hip Overhang is added.
  • All output fields are now all right justified. Makes it easier to read the numbers ;-)
  • Well I'm sure most of you know that you can now enter your measurements using feet, inches and fractions. The calculator is accurate to 1/16" which is just excellent for roof framing.
  • The calculator now gives the actual common rafter and jack rafter lengths.
  • I will add the actual hip length and hip overhang projection shortly ;-).
  • I will also up the ridge length and ridge height to be actual as well.
